Bird LeCroy (@Autull) is joined by Seth Merenbloom to discuss SEC scheduling, Auburn athletics, coaching searches, and how many teams the SEC and Big Ten will have in the College Football Playoff.
Seth (@SethMerenbloom) and Bird (@Autull) got the Adidas/basketball scandal dropped on them just before time to record, and they address that unholy mess in Episode 83. A couple of football stories, Butch Jones’ and Barry Odom’s locker room rants, were taken on as were this week’s predictions on all of the upcoming SEC games.
Seth (@SethMerenbloom) and Bird (@Autull) haven’t talked much about Mississippi State over the years, but that all changed on Episode 82. We talk about Dan Mullen and his job prospects, Auburn and Gus Malzahn’s personnel issues, and no episode of The SEC 411 is complete without mention of Butch Jones.
The SEC has six teams ranked in the AP Preseason Top 25. Much to everyone’s surprise, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee are all in the ranking. SEC fans everywhere are hoping that this preseason SEC East love is indicative of a quality season out of the entire East division.
The Florida Gators football program developed a negative reputation under former head coach Urban Meyer. Any issues that were present with Meyer shouldn’t be held against current Florida coach Jim Mcelwain. But that may be what is happening. Antonio Callaway was one of seven players to get in trouble recently. And now all of those players, including Callaway, are suspended for the season opening game against Michigan. As for the game itself, tune in for a bold, hot take opinion from Seth.
Tom Fornelli recently wrote about the most overrated teams in the 2017 preseason poll. Seth (@SethMerenbloom) agrees with Fornelli, but Bird (@Autull) believes that Gus Malzahn is in the middle of a five-year rebuilding project. The podcasting duo goes as far as to compare Malzahn to Bob Stoops.
